Find Strength In The Word

“This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.” (Psalm 119:50)

God’s Word is spiritual; and only the spiritual can quicken the human spirit (John 6:63). When everything else fails to cheer you up, the Word of God will; and not just cheer you up, but also give you the strength to keep going and to help others stay cheered up even in hard times.

Isaiah spoke about how the young men and women will faint (Isaiah 40:30), but Amos already tells us why. In the Book of Amos, he tells us that there would be a famine of the hearing of the Word of God, and this will lead to the people, young and old, fainting and wondering to no avail (8:11-13). This is why God’s primary interest is always to feed your spirit with His Word at all times (see Matthew 4:4); exactly what Isaiah had spoken about. But notice what he would say conclusively: he said “But they that do wait upon the Lord shall be strong; they shall mount up with wings like eagles: they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (v.31).

He was talking about waiting on (relying on, resting upon, trusting in) the Word God had spoken to them. In Habakkuk, he called this the “vision” bound for an appointed time, because God’s Word always comes to fulfilment. Thus, he was saying that those who found strength by trusting in the Word shall stay afloat when others are sinking. The Book of Job puts it as those who are humble enough to trust in Him shall be lifted up to safety when others are casted down (Job 22:29).

So therefore, it doesn’t matter how things are now presently, you have got to trust in the efficacy of God’s Word. He says everything else may fail, but not what He’s spoken to you in confidence (Numbers 23:19). It may tarry, but it will surely come to be (Habakkuk 2:3). You see, your confidants may disappoint you, but not God. And His Word won’t fail you.

Scripture says He sent His Word and it saved us from all our destructions (Psalm 107:20). That’s something worth remembering and relying on in times of trouble- that our deliverance lies in the Word. In the opening scripture David said that when afflictions arose, the Word of God kept him strong; and believe me, it will do you the same!

Confession:

The Word of God in my spirit is the license to my deliverance. It holds the key to my future, because all He says must be. Thus, I trust in the Word; I rely on it, and it gives me wings to rise above my limitations and feet to walk upon my high places. The Word of God is true; it brings comfort to my life, and by that comfort I bring blessings to my world. Hallelujah!!!
