Introduction: It can be easy to place our hope in the things of this world. However, everything in this world will disappoint us. True, everlasting hope comes from God through Jesus.
Discussion Starter: What was the last thing you anticipated with high hopes?
Primary Scriptures: Matthew 1:18-23, Isaiah 7:14, 1 Peter 3:8-9, 1 Peter 3:13-15
- Immanuel means “God with us.” Discuss what it means to you that, in Jesus, God is with us.
- Read 1 Peter 3:15 Do people ask you about your faith? If so, how do you respond? If not, how can you prepare to explain it when someone does ask?
- Are you seen as hopeful by your neighbors and others around you?
- Read Romans 5:3-5 Hope is the product of a developed character, which is the product of endurance, which is the product of suffering. So hope is at the end of the process, not the beginning. How have you responded to suffering this year?
